Template for an Executive Cover Letter

A useful writing suggestion: Credibility is one of the key ingredients of any cover letter, but especially for one where you are seeking a position as an executive. The hiring manager who reads your letter will want to know that you have integrity and honesty and believability—all part of what it means to be credible. In other words, will the company be able to count on you to uphold the organization's standards and work well with all employees at every level? Think about how to get that across in your cover letter, along with your list of skills and experience.

Mr. Morgan Miller
Hiring Manager
Oceanside Investments, Inc.
900 Information Highway
Any Town, USA 11111

Dear Mr. Miller:

Today I spent a couple of hours browsing JobSearchJimmy.com looking for a company with an opening for an executive in the financial field. I was very pleased to see that you have just such a job at Oceanside Investments and that your description fit perfectly with my talent and skills, including knowledge of investment strategies, leadership, and team building.

I worked in the 'money market' for five years, moving from middle management to executive management while employed at East Bridge Brokerage in Maryland. Now, however, I live in Any Town and am ready to join a new firm where I can use my leadership skills and develop my existing knowledge of the investment arena.

If you are available for an in-person meeting, I'd be happy to meet with you so we could discuss what I can bring to your organization and what you would expect from me if you select me for the job. My enclosed resume will provide more details about my previous employment opportunities and how they dovetail with the job you're advertising.

Please call me at 777-777-7777 to set up an interview if you wish to do so. Thank you very much for reading my cover letter and resume and giving me the chance to introduce myself to you. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Harold Job Winner

Final Tip: The executive cover letter you just read is a good template to study. However, it is important that your letter be compatible with your personality—not merely a copy of what someone else wrote. The hiring manager will be interested in your skills and experience, of course, but also in finding out what kind of person you are so don't be shy about including some details related to your ability to lead and to get along with others in the workplace.
