Question #1

Are you a man or a woman?

Basically, a resume summary highlights your qualifications so the employer can see at a glance if you're a person of interest—someone who can bring to the table what the company is looking for. Example: your most relevant strengths, skills, and basic competencies rather than a vague phrase such as 'multi-tasker' or 'team player.'

Following are some examples to consider if you decide to write such a document:

1. Compose four to six lines that address your professional background only.
2. Avoid referring to any employment lapses, career changes, or personal setbacks.

ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY
Effective and efficient administrative secretary with 15 years of experience helping to improve the internal day-to-day operation of a large corporation by supporting the executives and managers with skills that include: word processing, design programs, client relations, human resource recruiting, report writing, and excellent digital and personal communications.

PROJECT MANAGER
Experienced project manager with six years as a print project supervisor in a curriculum publishing house, including work in educational print and digital formats, consumer packaging, and financial services. Professional and service-oriented individual, responsible for company growth and improved monthly sales and revenue. Creative talent combined with practical skill set results in cost-effective solutions that work for the company and its customers.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Seasoned executive officer brings a focused approach to financial growth strategies that create compatible teams, low-risk investments, optimal internal operations, and external customer service and output for results that benefit both the base organization, as well as vendors and customers.

In each of the three examples above the job candidates pointed out their:

• Basic business strengths and skills relevant to their role in the company
• Previous related experience with primary functions
• Noteworthy accomplishments that apply to the next position they assume
