Craigslist is a huge (and very popular) site for a variety of services and products––from buying/selling items, to finding housing, to locating a job.

There are a ton of job listings on craigslist. Before you start applying for work, however, you need to be diligent and careful. Why?

Because potential employers can post jobs anonymously in order to hide the identity of the one posting. This means a lot of "scam jobs" appear on Craigslist.

Tip #1: Be Careful!

Of course, over half of the listings are completely legitimate, but you must be cautious and skeptical about each one––especially if it was posted anonymously.

Anything that sounds "too good to be true" probably is. It could be either a scam or a "bait and switch" technique, meaning what is posted does not match what is really being offered. Put in your due diligence and ask specific questions before arranging an interview or meeting face-to-face.

And by all means, NEVER meet someone at a questionable location like a private residence or even a small office in an out-of-the-way location.

Tip #2: Be Brave!

This is the easy part but it also takes courage. Simply go to the homepage of Craigslist and then click the jobs tab and put in the location you prefer. You can then search in the search box or click from the list of categories to filter your options and find the right job for you. Take a step of faith and trust that you'll find what you're looking for.

I recommend you search by job category, job title, certification, software, and/or specific skills.

Once you find openings that appear to be good matches, study them carefully, and when you are comfortable, follow the instructions to apply for the positions.
